How do I know if my house needs restumping or underpinning?

Look for the tell-tale signs. Slanted door frames, brickwork cracking, doors that don't open and close properly, sloping floors, sloping balconies, visible decay and rotting of the propertie's foundations and cracks and gaps in plasterwork. Also if your house is over 40 years old it is advisable to have it checked.

What is the difference between restumping, reblocking and underpinning?

The terms restumping and reblocking refer to replacing the stumps of a property with concrete stumps. This is usually done when the existing stumps, usually made of wood, have rotted or sunk into the earth beneath causing the house to slant. This condition can be dangerous for both the property and it's occupants. Underpinningis performed on a house which is not supported by stumps, usually a brick veneer home. Underpinning refers to correcting sloping conditions in the concrete foundations of a property.

How long does it take?

The length of time it takes to restore a property to it's correct condition varies on the size and severity of the problem. However most projects are completed within 5-7 days.

Do I have to be out of my house when you're working?

Usually not. It depends if floorboards must be removed from the home. Floorboards will need to be removed when there is not enough space between the bottom of the house and the earth for us to work beneath.

Will restumping my house cause any damage?

When the house is returned to it's corrrect level, there may be some cracking in plasterwork inside the house due to movement.
